Methodology
Oleo Dei does not taste: it aggregates. Just as a polling average gathers every published survey, the Oleo Dei Index gathers the results each oil earns in the major international competitions of the current harvest and sums them into a single figure out of 100, always with the breakdown and source of each data point in plain sight.
The index is calculated per harvest: results from the 2025/26 season are not mixed with earlier seasons, because each vintage is a different oil.
1 · Converting medals to points
Sources that publish a numeric score out of 100 are used as-is. The rest award medals or categories, which we convert with this fixed table:

2 · Weighting by competition
Not all competitions carry the same weight: we consider the size and training of the panel, the blind tasting and the number of samples evaluated. The weights are public and stable throughout the season:

3 · The weighted average
An oil's Oleo Dei Index is the sum of its points multiplied by the weight of each competition, divided by the sum of the weights. An oil needs at least one result in the current harvest to enter the ranking.
About the data
Each result belongs to the organization that publishes it. Oleo Dei collects the individual data point, links it to its original source and provides the normalization, aggregation and analysis. If you spot an error in any data point, write to us and we will correct it, noting the change.
